19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's first championship after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since spring of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is really nice," commented tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle in the past months.

His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
